Generative UI and the AI SDK
Vercel produces v0, an AI tool for developing websites, which generates web applications through natural language prompts. This tool is a 2025 Webby Award winner for developer tools. Developers use the AI SDK, a free open-source library released in 2023, to build conversational streaming interfaces in JavaScript and TypeScript. The AI SDK is a toolkit for building AI-powered applications and agents, and it is the AI Toolkit for TypeScript with 27,681 stars on GitHub. In contrast, the Next.js framework has 143,460 stars. Next.js is the open source React framework Vercel built together with Google and Facebook. I think the link between v0 and the AI SDK is the most important factor for generative UI adoption. The v0 platform generates the UI, and the AI SDK handles the conversational streaming. This combination targets the specific needs of Next.js developers. You should understand that the synergy between v0 and the AI SDK dictates the speed of generative UI deployment. W3Techs reports that Vercel hosts 1.9% of all websites.
Infrastructure and Deployment
Vercel manages deployments through Git repositories, including GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket, while its Fluid infrastructure model allows a local region instance to handle multiple requests concurrently and maintain the elasticity of serverless systems. This model arrived in 2025 to bridge the gap between traditional servers and serverless environments. The company handles deployments through the Vercel CLI and the Vercel REST API, which provides additional deployment paths for engineers. Large-scale users like Patreon use Next.js for e-commerce, travel, news, and marketing. Vercel also supports custom domains, though it defaults to a subdomain under the vercel.app domain. The company expanded its ecosystem through several acquisitions. These include Turborepo in December 2021, Splitbee in October 2022, Tremor in January 2025, and NuxtLabs in July 2025. In July 2026, Vercel acquired Better Auth and the Egyptian start-up Stakpak. The company architecture is composable.

Valuation and Risk
Vercel is an American cloud application company that raised $300 million in a Series F funding round in September 2025. This funding round put the company valuation at $9.3 billion. This follows a $250 million funding round in May 2024 where the valuation was $3.25 billion. In March 2026, Vercel added Mitchell Hashimoto, co-founder of HashiCorp and creator of Terraform, Vagrant, and Ghostty, to its board of directors.
The security incident on April 19, 2026, originated from the compromise of the third-party AI tool Context.ai, which allowed unauthorized actors to access internal systems after malware infected an employee’s computer following a download attempt for Roblox cheat scripts. This breach allowed the access of certain Vercel environments and environment variables that were not marked as "sensitive". The attacker breached a Vercel employee’s Google Workspace account. A threat actor from the group ShinyHunters claimed responsibility and tried to sell data for $2 million on BreachForums.
In September 2025, CEO Guillermo Rauch posted a selfie with Benjamin Netanyahu in New York. They discussed artificial intelligence and its application in Israel’s economy and defense. This event led to a widespread boycott of Vercel. Tech for Palestine endorses the Vercel boycott and supports the migration to Netlify. Many developers deleted their accounts and moved to alternatives. Amjad Masad of Replit offered companies help and discounts to switch. I believe the company is a risky choice for enterprise stacks because of the security breach and the leadership controversy. Can Vercel regain the trust of the developer community?
